I am excited to invite you to register for my “Fall Retreat”, aka, Maria’s Fall 2020 Scrap-in Weekend, or simply “Scrap-In Weekend”. Many changes are in place to keep everyone safe and scrapbooking, so this event will not be like any of my past twenty-nine retreats.
First of all, it’s virtual.
What’s that mean? Well, we will be scrapbooking from the comforts of our own homes and connecting via Zoom to laugh, share, catch up, visit, and of course, to scrapbook. Don’t let Zoom scare you; it’s so easy. I’ll even give you an inservice in the week prior, if you need one! 🙂
Another big change… a name change! I am calling this event a Scrap-In Weekend. Lauri Lyttle (a fellow Advisor and teammate) came up with the term. I love it. We will be staying “in”, to scrapbook, for the weekend, thus, Scrap-In. It’s also a play on the word, scrappin’ (I know you all picked up on that one, haha) I dropped the word “retreat” because as Linda Robb said, “It’s not a retreat; I still have to make meals, do dishes, and walk the dog.” In addition, she won’t be able to get her massage at Lakeshore Massage in Morrisburg:) So, I dropped the word retreat.
This event will be similar to Croptoberfest (Oct 16-18). If you missed that event, here are some expectations.
- You will receive your goodie bag prior to the event starting; it should be at your house before November 19th.
- The event starts at 9:00 am on Friday, November 20, but there are no requirements for when you are on the zoom call. You can come and go as you wish.
- There will be door prizes and a variety of ways to earn them. I am revising how door prize tickets were earned and drawn at Croptoberfest, so watch for an improved automated system coming to Scrap-In. I still plan to offer In-Your-Seat door prize tickets, so if you are on the zoom call at those times, you will earn door prize tickets. These important times will be on the agenda, so you won’t miss any.
- I will be emailing page challenges throughout Friday and Saturday, for you to do, if you wish. They are not mandatory!!! If you complete them, and post them to a FaceBook Album, you will earn more door prize tickets. They are meant to offer you a layout option should you not be able to come up with something, or to increase your productivity over the weekend, so you get more pages done.
- I will be offering page techniques for those who wish to participate. I’ll give you a list of what you need to complete the page ahead of time, and then we’ll walk through the steps together in a breakout room with all those who wish to participate.
- I will have an exclusive punch (or equivalent) to raffle off.
- I will showcase the newest collections (who wants to see what is coming in November?), tell you about my Virtual Holiday Open House (V-HOH), and demonstrate some tools.
- Upon recommendation from the Croptoberfest evaluation (thank you to everyone who took the time to fill that in), we will have a Show & Tell opportunity, when guests can show what they’ve been working on and share completed projects. I won’t call anyone out, I promise, but it’s nice for others to see the beautiful pages/cards that you have made (without just going to the FaceBook group to see them).
Scrap-zooming has its benefits. You get to set up your scrapping area anywhere in your home and you are not restricted to just 8 feet of table space like at the McIntosh Inn. Using a laptop/pc/tablet/phone, you click the zoom link and join the rest of us in the Common Room. I can add you to a breakout room with your friends, if you want. You won’t have to worry about what to bring, or packing up on Sunday; you’ll have everything you need with you all weekend long! You also don’t have to worry about forgetting something (phone charger, seat cushion, make up mirror… you name it, I’ve picked it up after you left), or if someone pre-programmed your TV channels in your favourite hotel room at the McIntosh Inn 🙂 Finally, as good as the food is at the Mac, eating out for five days is a little hard on my system, so I like the idea of having “normal” food throughout the weekend.
More benefits include that you can mute yourself if someone in your house needs your attention. You can turn off the speakers on your device to eleminate the noise from our zoom call (a nice feature if you are trying to journal on your page and need to concentrate!). You can also turn off your video at any time. You can have private conversations with people in your breakout room, but still enjoy meeting new people when we gather in the common room to share ideas, etc.
Prior to the Event, I’ll send you the zoom link, the agenda, last minute details and a list of ways to earn door prize tickets on November 17th. That will help you plan your weekend.
During the Event, you can run a tab with me to track products you may wish for me to order for you when the event is over. We’ll confirm everything on Sunday at checkout, in case you change your mind about something. I am also automating my invoicing, so you can better track your tab at any time. I will be available as much as possible during our waking hours to help you with anything that comes up.

How Do I Register for Scrap-In Weekend?
To register, please click this Google Forms link. I believe I have solved the issue some of you had with Google Forms at Croptoberfest. Let’s hope! Please let me know if you cannot gain access, or submit your form. I am attaching a PDF of the registration form, which you can use if you don’t like the Google Form. Please fill in the paper one, scan and send, or mail it back to me. Note, if you already paid the $50 deposit at Croptoberfest, both forms address that.
Scrap Happy Maria Virtual Crop on Saturday, November 14
I hope this answers your questions about what a virtual crop will look like. I really hope you can come. If three days is not possible, I am hosting a one-day, 9a-9p, Scrap Happy Maria Virtual Crop (SCH VC) on Saturday, November 14th for $10, which you are also invited to (or come to both!). There are not as many bells and whistles associated with the SHM VC, as you can imagine, but it’s still a great way to connect with friends, while setting aside the time to scrapbook. Please register for SHM VC (Nov 14) here.
Thank you for taking the time to read to the bottom of this. I hope that means you are considering coming to the Scrap-In. Please let me know if you have any questions. Here again is the link to register: https://tinyurl.com/ scrapinweekend
Have a great weekend,
Maria
